As Anders gets shot, the reader is told a lot about Anders' life and what makes him the way he is. I found it very interesting that all of his memories of which didn't cross his mind in his dying moment were very important, life changing, either experiences, or relationships. His past memories tell us about his relationships, his first girlfriend and his wife, in ways that blame the women. It was always him getting sick of them. This makes me wonder if this is his way of being okay with the way things didn't turn out in his life. If his wife got sick of him, would he have let himself remember it that way? By the way we see he treats everyone around him at the bank, I think he was definitely hurt by someone in the past, and he wasn't someone who just got sick of his past intimate relationships. I would say he has a shield up and makes a conscious effort in avoiding friendly gestures toward others. Even the way he dies says a lot about his motives. He feared the thought of anyone around him seeing him as vulnerable or weak more than he feared seeing his life end. It was his shield against the world around him that ultimately got him killed...(Some shield)
